The Baloch National Movement (BNM) called a protest in front of the White House, Washington, D.C. to condemn the cold-blooded murder of its Secretary General, Dr. Mannan Baloch by the Pakistani army in Balochistan.
Dr. Baloch, his three colleagues and a nephew were murdered in execution style by Pakistan Army’s Special Forces in the early hours of Saturday, January 30th in the restive Balochistan region where the army is currently engaged in a bloody campaign of genocide and ethnic cleansing of the indigenous population.
The protest was organized by Nabi Bakhsh, Deputy Convener, BNM- North America, Abdul Qadeer Baloch, Vice President, Voice for Baloch Missing Person (VBMP), Waheed Baloch, former Chairman of Baloch Student Organization (BSO) and Abdulah Baloch a human right activist.
The speakers at the protest rally strongly condemned the extra-judicial killing of Dr. Baloch and his colleagues in execution style in the Mastung area of Balochistan on Jan 30, 2016. The protestors demanded strong actions against the Pakistani state, which has been carrying out a policy of genocide against the Baloch nation. They also called for a free and independent Balochistan that can guarantee peace and stability in the region plagued by religious extremism and terrorism perpetrated by the Pakistani army.
Abdul Qadeer Baloch said that Dr. Baloch was highly popular for his work dedicated to the IDPs dislocated to the different parts of Balochistan in the after math of the catastrophic earthquake that hit Awaran and Makuran region of Balochistan in September 2013 and also due to aerial bombardments by the Pakistani helicopter gunships on civilian villages. He also worked actively to mobilize masses against Pakistani occupation forces’ policy of unlawful abduction of Baloch civilians in Balochistan. There are more than 20,000 cases of enforced disappearances in Balochistan. Abdul Qadeer Baloch appealed to UN to bring home the Baloch missing persons.
Mr. Senge Sering, leader, Gilgit-Baltistan movement, in his address supported the struggle for the independence of Balochistan. He strongly condemned the brutal murder of the BNM leader Dr. Mannan Baloch as a policy of Baloch genocide and ethnic cleansing.
Waheed Baloch said that Dr. Baloch was assassinated because of his unwavering struggle to end Pakistan’s forceful occupation of Baloch lands, deep sea port of Gwadar, resources ( natural gas, minerals, copper & gold mines) and brutal human rights violations of civilians.
Nabi Bakhsh, the Deputy Convener of BNM-North America said that Dr. Baloch was a leading figure in the movement for the social, economic, and the political rights of the people of Balochistan under Pakistan’s unlawful military occupation since 1948. He emphasized that Dr. Baloch was eliminated by the Pakistani army’s death squad for his ideals of an independent Balochistan, free of tyranny and terrorism so that peaceful economic development of his people could become a reality.
